Frequently asked questions
Neolegal is the future of legal services. Neolegal was founded because traditional access to justice is too expensive, too slow and too complicated. Our mission is to solve those problems with technology, legal processes and a new way of practising law.
You normally have 30 days to contest.
1. Plead guilty;
2. Plead not guilty;
A hearing date will be set for a default judgment. You will not receive a notice of hearing for that date. The judge could therefore determine your guilt (or not) in your absence.
Check the not-guilty box on the statement of offence. For more information, contact one of our lawyers at Neolegal so you do not make a mistake at this important step.
You will receive a notice of hearing with the date, time and place of your hearing.
Yes. In some cases, by a written request sent to the Court within the deadlines and based on a serious reason. We can also help with this step. Contact one of our lawyers at Neolegal to find the package that fits your situation.
Yes, but it is advisable to work with a lawyer to prepare your defence.
Business attire. Avoid accessories and prefer sober colours and long clothing.
The trial is the key step in contesting your statement of offence. You need to be thoroughly prepared to give yourself the best chance. Here is a summary:
1. The prosecutor (the State) presents its evidence, usually by filing the statement of offence and the abbreviated offence report. The arresting officer may also testify;
2. You present your defence, your version of the facts and your witnesses if any;
3. Arguments: you present your claims and may file case law;
4. Judgment, given on the bench or later, at the judge's discretion.
You can contact the fine collector to propose a payment arrangement.
1- Increase in your insurance premium;
2- Increase in the cost of your driver's licence;
3- Higher fine in case of repeat offence(s);
Consider these points before filing your plea or going to trial. Sometimes the fine is small compared to the cost of a lawyer, but the consequences of a conviction can be more serious than you think.
